How we do it

In the ancient Bono Kingdom of Ghana, King Adinkra created artistic symbols to represent values and concepts he wanted to transmit to his people. The Tabono symbol is an oar or paddle in motion, and draws on the metaphor of the coordination, strength and unity required to power a rowing boat. The Tabono has since become a West African symbol for unity of purpose in pursuit of a goal.

The Tabono symbol’s African flavour and parallel to our personal style of equity partnership makes it a fitting name for our company. Based in South Africa and having done several deals on the continent, we have developed an appetite for a challenge. We relish the complexity of the mining, industrial, logistics and service industries and find it meaningful to work together with all stakeholders for a win/win outcome that allows a business to reach its full potential. So if you want a partner with the know-how and sheer will power to go the distance - trust Tabono.

We invest in people. Building a successful business in Tabono’s chosen sectors takes pioneering thinking and deep sector expertise. We only work with talented entrepreneurs and entrepreneurial teams who are not fazed by the air of mystery that may surround our chosen sectors. Our partners see opportunities and grab them. Profitably.

A passion for impact. Risk is ever-present in business. Tabono’s understanding of specialist sectors ensures that we take calculated risks and a long-term view. We want to know: what can we contribute to an already profitable business to scale it to the next level?  We unlock maximum value from our involvement in every transaction.

We row with you. Tabono invests in businesses with strong management teams and expansion plans in place. We take an active strategic, leadership and financial support role in the businesses in which we invest. The owners’ generosity of spirit is central to the way Tabono does business - they’re in it to develop strategic partnerships that create extraordinary stakeholder value.

Homegrown. Having done several deals on the African continent, we’ve developed an appetite for challenge. We relish the complexity of the mining, industrial, logistics and service industries and find it meaningful to work together with all stakeholders for a win/win outcome that allows a business to reach its full potential.
